Chamber to Organize Junior Chamber of
Commerce
The San Rafael CA Chamber has announced plans to
organize a Junior Chamber of Commerce for your
young adults between the ages of 18 and 40. The
new San Rafael Junior Chamber of Commerce is a
project being undertaken by the Chamber’s
Leadership Institute. The purpose the Junior
Chamber will be to provide a training ground for
young adults just starting their business
careers as well as those wanting to improve
their business skills and get more involved in
their communities.

Chamber Business Leaders Get an Education
The Ventura CA Chamber recently had eleven
business leaders signed up to job shadow a
school principal for a half day as past of the
chamber’s 10th annual “Principal for d Day.”
Those that participate in the event will
interact with school administrators, teachers
and students. Each year there is a debriefing
luncheon where business leaders and school
principals discover new opportunities for
business partnership with local schools.

Chamber Youth Scholarship Program Kicks Off
One of the most popular events sponsored by the
Eureka CA Chamber is its Youth Ambassador
Program. This inspiring event matches achieving
local youth with community-minded local business
sponsors. The objective of the Youth Ambassador
Program is to recognize outstanding local high
school juniors who have been selected and
nominated by their school counselors. The
program is designed to inspire commitment to
community service, introduced students to the
local business community, and provide a
fun-filled, skill-building competition for
scholarships to college-bound students.

Chamber Hosts Disney Institute Program
Disney Institute is bringing its renowned
professional development program, “The Keys to
Excellence” to Long Beach CA in August. The
full-day event in being sponsored by the Long
Beach Chamber and Wal-Mart. Four 90-minute
sessions will introduce participants to
innovative Disney business strategies that they
can easily implement in their own organizations.

Chamber Sponsor How to Avoid Foreclosure
Seminar
Recognizing that losing one’s home to
foreclosure is a devastating experience that
adversely affects the entire community, the
Novato CA Chamber’s Business Education Committee
will be hosting a seminar to give people real
help to avoid foreclosure. Titled “Preventing
Foreclosure” the informational seminar is
co-sponsored by Legal Aid of Marin.

Chamber to Match Funds For Anti-Crime DVD
Local residents and service clubs are stepping
up to the plate to help fund a La Mesa CA Police
Department project to produce DVD’s for home and
business owners on how to make their properties
more crime resistant. The San Diego East County
Chamber Board has committed a minimum of $1,000
to the project and has set up a match challenge
to its members that the chamber would match
donations up to $2,500. If successful, the San
Diego East County Chamber will bring $5,000 to
this valuable project.

Chamber and School District Launch Joint
Office
The Los Angeles Area Chamber has formed a
strategic alliance with the Los Angeles Unified
School District. Together, they have co-created
a joint office. The new office will match
companies and organizations, by theme, within
small learning communities to greatly enhance
curriculum and engage the business community in
public education. Aiming to build more than 350
business-education partnerships over the next
two years, the joint office will facilitate
additional programs to achieve the longer-term
goal of connecting every LAUSD high school with
a business partner.

Chamber Members Hire Locally
Gilbert (AZ) Chamber has launched its first
chamber job posting website. Members can post
multiple job openings online, review resumes,
and speak with candidates. The Now Hiring
website connects applicants with HR
professionals, recruiters, and hiring managers
and allows employers to find candidates that fit
specific needs. In addition, applicants are able
to obtain background information on potential
employers allowing job seekers to research and
prepare prior to applying for the open position.
Recruiting for jobs within the city helps keep
local talent and strengthens the economy.

Chambers Partnership Strategy Moving Towards
Completion
The Oakland Partnership – a five year effort to
grow Oakland’s economy and create 10,000 new
jobs has been one of the Oakland (CA) Chamber’s
most important initiatives over the past year.
In partnership with the mayor and other members
of the community, the chamber helped lead the
effort to set priorities and take strategic
actions to strengthen Oakland’s economy and to
make sure the city catches new waves of
investment in diverse industries.
